MUNDELEIN, Ill. — 13 August 2026
One of the most common questions asked by publishers considering pay-per-call is how long it takes to see a first lead, and how much has to be spent to find out. This case study answers both with a single documented build, published by the publisher himself.
Muhammad Shahzad, an affiliate publisher working with Lead Smart Inc, launched a local service website on 3 August 2026. Within the first ten days the site recorded 166 active users, 148 new users and 672 tracked events, received inbound phone calls, and produced converted leads. The site was built using his own software on Cloudflare Workers. His stated total cost was the domain registration.

The ten-step process, in his own order
Shahzad published his method as a numbered sequence rather than a list of tactics. The order matters: intent research precedes structure, structure precedes content, and tracking is set up before optimisation begins.
| Step | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| 1. Keyword research | Buyer-intent and service keywords only. Not informational traffic — terms typed by someone who wants the job done now. |
| 2. Search intent mapping | One keyword mapped to one page. The right query lands on the right page rather than a generic homepage. |
| 3. Site structure | A clear service page for each service, with supporting pages beneath them. |
| 4. On-page SEO | Titles, meta descriptions, headings and URLs aligned to the mapped keyword for each page. |
| 5. Content SEO | Helpful content written against real search intent instead of keyword padding. |
| 6. Semantic SEO | Relevant entities, services and locations, so search engines can place the site in the right topical and geographic context. |
| 7. Internal linking | Key pages connected and strengthened so authority flows to the pages meant to convert. |
| 8. Technical SEO | Fast, crawlable and mobile-friendly. Cloudflare Workers hosting kept response times low at negligible cost. |
| 9. Schema and indexing | Sitemap, schema markup, canonical tags and Search Console submission. |
| 10. Tracking | Traffic, calls and conversions measured from day one, so optimisation decisions rest on data rather than instinct. |
Research → Structure → Content → Optimize → Index → Track → Improve
Why this build worked quickly
Three choices account for most of the speed.
- Buyer-intent keywords only. The site targeted service queries typed by people who want a job done, not informational searches. Low-volume, high-intent local terms are far less contested, so a new domain can rank into them in weeks rather than months — and a single one of those visitors can place a call worth more than hundreds of informational readers.
- One page per intent. Mapping each keyword to a dedicated service page, rather than routing everything to a homepage, means the ranking page is also the converting page.
- Tracking from day one. Calls and conversions were instrumented before traffic arrived, so the first results were measurable rather than anecdotal.
What a call is worth before you build
The economics of a build like this depend entirely on payout, which is why Lead Smart publishes its payout coverage openly. Its affiliate bid tool lists minimum expected payouts across 417,983 ZIP-code and service combinations in 27 live verticals, refreshed daily, so a publisher can check what a call is worth in a specific market before registering a domain. The all-vertical median payout is $32.50, the 90th percentile is $177.00, and net payouts in the highest-value categories reach $497.50 for a single water-damage call.
Publishers who want the underlying method rather than the summary can read it free: Lead Smart founder Matthew Zivkovic publishes 17 full pay-per-call courses at no cost through Pay Per Call Academy, including Local SEO (Websites That Rank), Rank and Rent, Aged Domains and Analytics and Optimization — the same ground this build covers.
This is one publisher’s documented result in one market, self-reported with analytics screenshots. Ten-day timelines depend on market competition, vertical, and the publisher’s existing SEO skill. Many builds take months, and some never rank. We publish specific results with their conditions attached rather than averages that describe nobody.
