Earlier this year I qualified for the Earthquake Brace and Bolt program. I scheduled 3 contractors to bid on the job. The first did a thorough inspection and after reviewing the house plans let me know that the EBB work was not necessary because of remodelling that was done in 2001. Ricardo from RSL also did a thorough inspection and reviewed the house plans and came to the same conclusion. But unlike the other contractors, Ricardo educated me that I could qualify for a 20-25% CEA Earthquake Insurance discount by filing a Dwelling Retrofit Verification Form. Really appreciated Ricardo’s honesty, time, and making the extra effort to educate me about how I could get a discount on my earthquake insurance. Great customer service!

Hello, I just wanted to notate how happy and satisfied with the work RSL Structural Inc did on our house. First off, Ricardo is a professional in this field with knowledge and experience. He answered every and all of my questions and made sure I understood the process, from before and after the installation. He explained the technical aspects to me and showed me the completed work. RSL Structural Inc. were extremely professional with our earthquake brace and bolt project at our house. Ricardo was great with explaining the program process and the options available for our house. The project was completed on time, as scheduled and to our satisfaction. RSL Structural Inc. was very prompt with all communications. They also dealt with the city for the permit and final inspection. I would highly recommend their services.

I was awarded the Earthquake Brace & Bolt (EB&B) grant for up to $3,000 for a seismic retrofit. I own a 1950’s home with a crawl space style foundation running around the perimeter of the house with traditional wood stick framing. During the EB&B grant process, you must select an approved contractor. As part of the search process, I found Ricardo Lima from RSL Structural. He came over to the home to do an estimate, and took detailed notes and photos of the crawl space foundation. He then explained how the EB&B grant application process worked, and I found him very professional and knowledgeable. He even pointed out a plumbing leak under the kitchen I was not aware of. I had other contractors out to give an estimate that never mentioned that, which made me question their thoroughness. Once I decided I wanted to work with Ricardo, he booked me into his calendar for 2.5 days of work. He was able to complete the actual installation of the braces & bolts over 2 days. And he returned the 3rd day for the city inspector to inspect and sign off on his work. In total I spent $6,500 before the $3,000 grant, and I only had to be inconvenienced by 2 days of loud construction noise. I appreciated his constant communication and knowledge throughout the process. He is very aware of how the EB&B grant program works, and was able to do the majority of the paperwork himself, since he does it so often. I cannot recommend Ricardo enough, he has demonstrated himself as the #1 seismic retrofit contractor on the SF Peninsula!

Ricardo (RSL Structural) was great to work with for an EBB program foundation retrofit. Seamless and responsive communication from first reach out to project finish. Retrofit was completed efficiently in a day with inspection sign off a couple days later. Highly recommend him!

Ricardo explained everything he would be doing and since I knew nothing about the process, Ricardo was been kind enough to explain to me the steps that I need to take and he relieved my anxiety. Of the contractors who came to my house he was the most professional and took the time to talk to me and show pictures and tell what he would me doing. On the days of the actual work Ricardo introduced me to his assistant and told me what would be happening through the process of the retrofitting. I was surprised how quickly the work was completed. Ricard left the entire are clean. He even put a patch on a fall vent for me that he saw in passing. That is something going just a liitle extra. Ricardo is really a pleasant, knowledge man to work with. He made this whole process so much easier for me by explaining each step which really meant a lot to me. I highly recommend Ricardo Lima as the contractor for EBB.

We picked Ricardo/RSL as part of our work with the Earthquake Brace & Bolt (EBB) program to do a seismic retrofit of our home. We got several competing bids. Ricardo was the only one who took the time to explain the work he would do in terms we could understand. His approach was professional and made sense. He did not oversell or undersell. He explained what he thought we needed at our home and when we asked questions he could justify his point of view. He was patient with our questions and we never felt rushed. He put us at ease. That continued throughout our contract with him. Communication was simple, quick and efficient. When things went wrong — like a dead battery in the work truck on the day the work was due to start (!) — it was a simple text that he’d be late and when he would be able to show up. And then he did. As far as the work goes, Ricardo did all the work himself. Everything he did was as advertised. He was clean, neat and respectful of our needs. His work has given us peace of mind. Bottom line: Hire Ricardo if you can get him, based on our experience, you will not be disappointed.
