Do not hire this company in my experience! They didn’t give an itemized list of things after work was “done”. The work was not completed. When they claimed to be finished they sent invoice and refused to send it with an itemized list of what they were charging for and the materials used. Bought extra materials and left them at my house. Put a lean against the house and demanded payment. Still didn’t give an itemized receipt. The people they hired were good, but the management of the construction company was horrible. No follow through or up. Bad experience and the worst example of business management and practice ever. Look anywhere and save yourself a headache.

Last year we finished an expansive deck and BBQ Island on our Lake Whatcom waterfront home. This is the second project over the years for which we have used Z Contruction. The workers show up and show up every day! Perry personally inspected the work every couple days and communicated with us. If you want it “right” have Z Construction do it!

I highly recommend Z Construction. During 2020, we acquired several bids for a ~600SF home addition that included a dining room, a bathroom, and a bedroom. We appreciated the direct responsiveness of Perry Zender (owner) and his willingness to work with us to keep costs within budget. He also gave us flexibility for finishes. Z Construction had the lowest bid, and we were confident that his company could get subcontractors on site during a very competitive building environment. I’ll mention great things about working with Z, and I’ll also mention a few things that we would have done in hindsight. First, here is a short list of the things we really appreciated about Z: Communication: I could always rely on Perry for quick email responses and clear conversation over the phone. He frequently visited the site to check-in. This was also true for the project manager (Chad Davis) along with office support staff. Quality: I was working from home for most of the construction and I was able to see the project progression. Everyone was efficient and on time. The job site was kept clean and organized. The project took place in the pandemic, and my family appreciated the cautions that were taken. Z created a temporary “wall ” between the construction and our existing home to allow work to be done. This kept noise and dust to a minimum. I’m grateful to Perry for this. Costs: Z Construction had the lowest bid for our project. When something came up costing more, a “Change Order” would be made and Perry was sometimes able to compromise on those costs. In a project like this, surprises happen, but I never felt deceived or unfairly charged for extra cost. In hindsight, I would have done some things differently. This is not a fault of Z, but more of a note to plan a project carefully. Z works from an architectural plan and contract. They do that well, but don’t expect design ideas. That’s up to you. Bathrooms are expensive, and in hindsight, I would have planned our bathroom better in advance. We hired for tile afterwards and costs were higher than I expected. Also, we have some rainwater issues to deal with. In hindsight, I would have liked to plan that prior to construction. During the flooding event in November of 2021, the new crawlspace filled with water. I would have liked to include better drainage with Z. Again, that’s not a fault of Z, but it is important to be proactive in your plan prior to hiring a general contractor. In summary, I highly recommend Z construction. We would absolutely hire them again for a project.

The grape arbor on my side deck was very old when I moved to my “new” house 24 years ago. I knew replacing it would be a mess and a huge inconvenience! Perry Zender and his wonderful crew proved me wrong. They supported the grapes vines while tearing down the old arbor, cleaned up the mess and quickly hauled it away. The new arbor went up within days and I just love it. I wish I would have done this years ago!

Perry was awesome to work with. Communication was smooth and the house he built for me was over and above what I expected the insurance would allow after having the original house burn to the ground. That was due to Perry’s ongoing relationship with my insurance company. Although we had a contract, Perry is a hand shake kinda guy and that means a lot to me.

Z Construction built an office building at my mini storage complex and performed a number of other tasks. You cannot go wrong with the Z boys. Very professional and on budget and on time.

Our House is nice ,functions so well . I LOVE the details, trim and extra care Perry Zender and his staff put into it. Our home burnt down in Feb 2019, Z Construction was recommended to us as a great company for complete rebuild. We had awesome communication between the insurance company , ,Z’s crew and his office staff. Even through the pandemic, his crew could have stopped to received unemployment , but.they kept on working ,one man on the job at a time. Which I interpreted as respecting their head leads, and happy to work . I found it easy to express my concerns. I only had 2 melt downs and it wasn’t Z constructions fault. If there were to be any criticism it would be .. Watch your budget, and prepare yourself with change orders. Know what you want. Ask if you don’t understand..People call weekly to ask for a viewing. and are so very impressed. It was really fun the work with Perry and His crew and staff.

Very good communication with this company. We got a quote from Z Construction for some fairly major water damage in our downstairs. We were really struggling with our insurance company giving us anything close to a realistic quote, but Z’s (shout out to Brandon) gave us a very comprehensive estimate in the style the insurance company wanted and helped us get their offer up almost 9 grand. Brandon was very helpful and kept in great communication. We ended up not using them as a family member that is a contractor ended up taking on the project for us, so I can’t speak to the quality of their work, but I thought they deserved a good review based on the initial experiences we had with them.
