To clarify what Rebecca Rubinson has written. She is my partner and we live in our house together. While I was the one who signed that contract, Thomas was told to interact with her on all items regarding painting and design. He did not come through with what they had discussed in touching up a certain area, and has consistently said it was not in the contract. While that area was not specifically called out, a general “touch ups and drips” was, which this was part of the work in our minds. He has not even tried to discuss as to why he doesn’t think this was not part of the contract, he just keeps saying that, and/or ignoring us. Bottom line is that he was contracted by this household and did not complete what we believed that we agreed to.

POTENTIAL CLIENTS BEWARE-do not hire Thomas, he is a scheister!!! He was introduced to us through a lighting company, and they brought him in to do some touch up work after everything was done in our basement remodel. Our basement had already been painted, but very poorly by a previous contractor. Before Thomas started on the project he was brought in to do, he started inspecting the paint and pointing out the obvious flaws and commenting on how things should’ve been done, even feeling the tops of the doors and commenting on how they weren’t sanded and ignored all together and that is a basic item for him. We did a whole walk through of the basement and I even had taped some spots on the stairwell that I had intended to have the original painter touch-up. He talked a good talk and we decided to hire him to address the numerous issues (especially because he is the only guy our lighting company uses). We trusted him and he offered us a discount, so we went with it (he is expensive!). His associate, Sean, was lovely and did a great job. However, the stairwell never got touched up, but they did the section above the stairs, which touches the wall, after I brought this up to Sean. He clearly remembers these conversations and said he would remind Thomas. Sean made sure that part got done. The stairwell wall was still ignored. When I brought this up to Thomas, he said he could come out a few days later, which didn’t work for us. When I told him that and asked for a different date, his story completely changed! He now started claiming that the stairwell was never in the quote. Also, refused to respond to me because my boyfriend is the one who signed the quote. He would say he doesn’t know if I’m telling him something that my BF is unaware of. My BF told Thomas I am authorized but he still didn’t fully engage with me. We would send him emails with both of us copied on it, and he would never “reply all”. He would only reply to my BF. We requested multiple times he “reply all”. And then when we started calling him out on everything, he flat out ignored us. When he did choose to respond, again only replying to one of us, he would say it’s not in the scope of the quote, and he’s not working for free, and did not address other questions we raised. He never did do the doors like he promised and has since gone silent. We have email conversations documenting this all, and he still acts like we are trying to get a free touch-up.

Thomas helped me get a luxury condo ready for sale. He touched up and fixed drywall imperfections, cracks, patches, scuffs, etc. it looks great! He was timely, fair, and very nice to work with. By the way, he figured out a way to paint some walls and not others to hold costs down.

The service Thomas and his crew provided me was excellent. There was a lot of exterior repairs that needed to be done before the painting could begin, and they still got the work done in the time frame promised. They made our tired old house look new and fresh again! Working with them was wonderful, you couldn’t ask for a nicer bunch of guys to be hanging around your house for a week. They were all respectful, polite, on time every day, and very helpful. I would recommend Kern Painting to anyone for interior or exterior work and will not call anyone else if I ever have a need again. 5 Stars all the way!
