Been doing metallic floors for a while. Gave their pure metallix brand a shot. It was the thickest epoxy I’ve ever used. Thought it was weird when the quart cans all said use for droplets. Nobody wants that style anymore. Went to make marble veins and it was nearly impossible. Could barely even swirl the colors together it was so thick. Forget about using a squeegee at all. Couldn’t even push the stuff had the roll the whole thing. To their credit the kit is accurate on sq ft. Thought it was weird when they mixed colors in before they shipped as well. But they didn’t even mix it just dumped powder in and it all congealed to sides impossible to get all of the metallic color out and I ended up having to waste storm cloud I bought because it was just too thin. I will never be purchasing from them again. Told me 3 days for delivery took over 12 to get and sent 3 separate orders all mismatched as well. Joke of a company for actual professionals. I’ll pay the extra 100 bucks and get real metallics next time. And the guys on the phone know nothing. You ask basic questions on bubbling and using alcohol it’s like your speaking a different language. Clearly they don’t use there own products. I guess that’s why they haven’t posted a video in 14 years on how to use it.

Very happy with my experience with Original Color Chips! I was looking for a custom blend of 1/4 in chips to achieve a terrazzo look in an epoxy floor. The sample kit I ordered showed up quickly and had a surprisingly huge variety of colors. Once I chose my colors, I ordered the one-pound bags of each. The price per bag of chips seems very reasonable considering how much coverage you get once you mix a few bags of colors together. I’d highly recommend this company to anyone looking for paint flakes!

Recently was in search of a professional grade epoxy system that I would be able to apply myself to one of the work bays at our shop. If you have been searching for something similar you know that all of the options you’ll come across can be a bit overwhelming. The original color chips system is the one that really stuck out to me over my time researching online. Luckily they are local to me (about a 30 minute drive) so I decided to stop in. I’m definitely glad I did! Mind you I went there about 30 mins before they closed on a Friday, which also happened to be the day after Thanksgiving. Yet they did not rush me one bit and took their time to answer any questions I had, plus some! They explained how to use use the system I went with in depth and even went over some scenarios where people run into problems. Which was very helpful and probably saved me from a few mistakes I would have made. I ended up going with the Norklad WB for my primer, which can be used as a base coat or a primer, then applied the 100% solids Norklad 200 for my base coat, I did a full broadcast with my chips (complete chip coverage on floor) which was a custom blend of their Black Marble Sparkle + added their bright red flake to it. I then used their 747 clear, which is their High Performance Urethane Clear Coat to seal everything in, give it an awesome shine and protect the flakes. I also applied their anti-slip glass beads for extra traction since the work area does get water on it. YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO WEAR THE PROPER RESPIRATOR WITH THE URETHANE. They made sure to tell me that, but I just wanted to mention it in here in case you’re also new to epoxy floors like myself. It’s strong stuff for sure…but that’s what I wanted and expected. Overall I am 100% happy with the results and the service and guidance I received from both of the sales reps I dealt with. I’ve used the cheap box store stuff in the past and it honestly those products have no comparison to the Norklad products…they’re not even in the same league as Norklad. These truly are professional grade products, yet they do a very solid job of laying out simplified (yet very detailed) instructions on how to use their systems. Prep is definitely key and takes some time, but it’s what’s going to give you the proper results. I did grind the floor after cleaning it and filling cracks, which I would definitely recommend doing. All of the pros grind instead of etching, there’s a reason why. You can rent a floor grinder at your local box store for pretty cheap. I happen to have rotary polishers on hand being a detail shop and bought one of the diamond cut cup grinding tool attachments from Harbor Freight for only $40…it worked like a champ! As long as you take your time on the prep, follow their instructions and can handle your basic DIY project, I guarantee you’ll be happy with your results too! If you’re on the fence about what epoxy supply company to go with…pick the Original Color Chips, you’ll be glad you did!
