Sorry this is so late after the fact but things have been busy around our household. About a month or so ago, i contacted Dolan plumbing about replacing the front and rear frost free hose bibs on my house. These are the hose spigots for further clarification. When the 2 techs arrived, i showed them where the bibs were. One was in the storage room just below the meter, out in the open, the other was in the laundry room just behind the washing machine and the one tech said he wasnt even going to disconnect the washer just pull it out enough to work behind it if i didnt mind him sitting on the dryer to get over, i said go ahead. I was told they would look at the bibs, then give me an estimate before starting work. He then comes up and says that 1 is cut off and to replace both is $550. At this point what choice do i have? I said go ahead. I called the office and explained the situation to the woman who answered. Now mind you, all that was required to do this repair (beside the fact i worked in construction and already knew, this is what the tech told me he would do) was to cut off the old bibs, slide them out, slide in the new ones and sweat solder 2 connections, 1 on each one. I even told the tech dont worry about the stainless steel anchor scews on the outside, i had them leftover from my job because we would use stainless vs whatever the plumber had on hand cause our inspectors wanted stainless. When i conveyed this to the office manager she wouldnt budge, that was the price. I told her you guys did them last time for $350. She wouldnt budge. I told her ive been dealing with dolan since 1984 when i bought this place, 3 water heaters and other problems, never getting other estimates, just calling you guys, she wouldnt budge. Well, if thats how you value a 30+ year customer, maybe next time, i ll be getting estimates instead of just saying go ahead and do it.
