My electrical work had already been done by another unregistered electrician, but CookCo required an electrician that was licensed and registered in Cook County and I found Clar Electric on the county’s list of such. Jamie Clar is the owner/electrician and he was simply great to work with…. incredibly responsive and a really good communicator. He reviewed what the prior electrician had done, noted some minor code violations that he would fix if the CookCo inspector made issues of them, and guaranteed that he would be present for the inspection once it was scheduled. He then coordinated with the inspector, and once the inspector understood the (small) size of my project, he indicated that he could conduct the inspection with photos. Jamie told me what photos I should take, and he forwarded them to the inspector, who then approved the inspection without escalating the minor code issues. Jamie invested some time helping with my project, and again, his responsiveness, experience and consultation got me through the confusing Cook Co process and inspection, but he refused any payment because we hadn’t required the onsite inspection or any repairs. He’s a real straight shooter and I know who I’ll call when I need electrical work in the future!

Jamie solved an electric issue that has stumped several electricians– shocks from our stainless steel kitchen sink. We’ve spent hundreds of dollars on other electricians trying to figure it out– unsuccessfully. Jamie figured out the problem over the phone and fixed it in less than an hour at our house. That, in a nutshell, is the advantage of using an electrician with decades of experience– he’s seen it all. Such a relief!

I unequivocally trust and recommend Clar Electric for any and all home electrical needs. Jamie’s great personality on the phone and in person is very reassuring. Jamie is a true professional. He is appropriately responsive to messages, has always explained what work will be performed, how it will be performed, and has given valuable information without needing to ask many follow-up questions. When I am even a little unsure of something, he confidently has an answer to any of my inquiries. Pricing has always been very fair. I always know I will get what I pay for. (Even though they would never do this) I would not hesitate to hire them before even receiving a quote for the work I needed done. I also appreciate that I NEVER have felt like I am being “spoken down” to, even though I rarely know the technical nuances of the work requested. We’ve used Clar Electric for a number of smaller projects (running electric to a new room, light fixtures, ceiling fans, light switch replacement, etc.) We’ve always been very happy with the workmanship.

Jamie came out after finishing his days work to check a problem that was probably a Comm Ed issue but still made time that evening to check our panel and assure us that everything was fine inside and to follow up with Comm Ed.

I called Jaime from Clar electric to come out and install a 220 line to my garage for electrical vehicle charging station. Jaime was great to deal with, very professional and pleasant. His crew was excellent in their work and character. I definitely recommend him.

Extremely happy I went with Clar Electric. I had a 900 sqft basement I needed finished that included installing recessed lights, outlets, switches, and new breakers. They were reasonably priced and work was completed without any conflict. I originally went with Clar’s quote instead of others because they were the only company that didn’t get intimidated by having a village permit for the work. I’ll definitely be calling them again for any future jobs.
