**BEWARE** We went with this company for a kitchen and bathroom renovation with all new flooring on the first floor because of their great reviews. Since we started this job (4 months ago) the reviews have gone down due to the current management. They won’t answer any questions, they avoid phone calls, their credit at material stores is no good, subs have to pay out of pocket for materials and don’t get reimbursed, they don’t pay the subs for the job and have refused to come back to finish work. They have $16k of our money for work/materials that they can’t account for. The guy in charge gives all the subs to a friend of his that will never show up to do the work. Legal action is being taken and going to cost us even more. Save your money and find a different contractor to handle your job and your money.

Horrible experience dealing with this company. They sub contract to just about anybody they can get to work. The craftsmanship is horrendous , the owner thinks the work they complete is acceptable . You can see in the photos the main reason the gate that was installed is failing on the first day it was conlleted is because none of the cuts are square and flush , many not even touching the connection point , cross supports done completely wrong , many nails did not even go where they were meant to. They made a 1 foot gap between the fence line that was supposed to be where they connected too . A gap a person can fit through ( check pictures) . They installed a crooked fence with a gap on my neighbors fence , big enough that her animals can escape through. I could add another 20 mistakes but you get the picture. I understand things happen when you subcontract, but the owner ( Jacob ) refused to fix anything , said i was playing games . I have all communications between me and J and L . Lesson learned , never go with the lowest bid . Avoid this company at all costs .

Company is getting sued on multiple fronts for lying and stealing peoples money. The owner is an addict and embezzler. They commit tax fraud on a large scale and can’t retain any employees due to their bad business practices. They will lie to you about pulling permits and they will lie to you about anything to keep you from leaving a review. They are reckless and don’t care. They’ve done these things to MULTIPLE families in Hampton Roads. Do not use this company.

04/17/24 Edit: J&L contacted me after seeing my review to see if I still needed a quote and installation, but I already went with another company. They had an unusual circumstance that caused my request (and others) to slip through the crack. I do appreciate them apologizing and explaining the situation. I hope they start using a central calendar to prevent situations like this from occurring when something happens to one of the workers. I will contact J&L for other projects that my home needs. They are registered with the SCC and DPOR confirms they are a licensed contractor. Original: I contacted J & L Home Renovations about a month ago to replace my gutters. The lady I spoke to was very friendly. She said their workers do their own scheduling and one of them follow up with me. However, none of them have.

J&L Home Renovations is one of the best contractors I’ve ever done business with, if not THE best. Their work is impeccable and every employee I dealt with, from the sales staff at the office to the skilled tradesmen on the job, were professional, polite and friendly. My detached storage building was built quickly and with phenomenal quality and craftsmanship. J&L built it within the agreed budget and I was never ambushed with extra costs and the price was more than reasonable. They never ‘nickeled and dimed’ me with fluctuations in materials costs or small alterations to the budget. Their workers showed up on time and as scheduled and they updated me anytime there was a change to the schedule . If you are lucky enough to get Dallas Mooney assigned to your project, you will have a quality and beautiful project that will be flawless. His attention to detail and skill is above and beyond any I have seen through 33 years of working with contractors. I HIGHLY recommend J&L and hope I can still utilize them for future projects because I predict they will be in constant demand and very busy once word gets out about their services.
