We contracted with Jim (which was our first mistake) for a new garage build. we paid him $35,000 when we signed the contract (our second mistake) for a total price of $55,000 for the job. Jim was unable to get the necessary permits from the city. After nearly a year of no work being done and no progress, we asked for our money to be returned. We have been MORE than patient with him and tried to work on a resolution with him, but all he does is provide excuses. it’s funny that in his replies to other reviews, he writes how “my company doesn’t fraud anyone and never has…. anyone of my customers that I have can tell anyone that at any time”…well we are/were your customer and we‘ve had a terrible experience with “your company”. Jim has several judgements against him, both from customers and suppliers. He owes Bliffert Lumber over $137,000 based off a civil judgement. All this information is verifiable by looking his name up on CCAP. ****EDIT IN RESPONSE TO JIMS REPLY: first of all…what!? YOU are the one that SUGGESTED having a subcontractor do the work since YOU were unable to get the permits. We have these texts. The subcontractor that YOU suggested did not want to do the work because HE KNEW YOU WOULDNT PAY HIM. The issue you refer with our neighbor was about our fence, which we did have a permit for. Feel free to look it up on the online property search by the city of Milwaukee. Keep on lying and giving excuses. And lastly, you did $2000 worth of work inside our house. At that point you had already cashed our $35,000 check and delayed our garage build for nearly a year. Why would you expect us to pay you MORE when work was not complete?

The pressure treated wood outdoor decking material from a large home improvement chain in Wisconsin that starts with the letter “M” epically failed with warping and splintering. The final straw came when the posts rotted and became movable. This was not safe. After getting bids from other contractors that were jokingly high and questionably low we selected Affordable Building LLC. Not because of the name, but because the owner made the time to work with us to understand what we wanted and expected BEFORE any bid was received. Our deck has a basement walkout, so this required a rain/snow protection as use this all year. He thoroughly explained the removal and construction process and set our expectations of completion time frames. He and his crew worked outdoors in full sun for hours doing heavy, manual labor and hauled the old decking material by hand up a hill to the only place a dumpster could be put. He respected our property and didn’t want to damage it with tractors and other heavy equipment. To my surprise, no nails in the lawn or broken splinters of the old decking material were found. They cleaned the property of them. Being construction in the post-COVID era there were material delivery problems from the supplier. He warned us of that ahead of time and contacted us almost daily to see if the supplier delivered the materials as he had other jobs that were going on and he needed to keep his crew busy. Once the materials arrived, the necessary Village construction permits were obtained, and they worked when there was daylight and the weather permitted to install the deck, the rain protection system and some very sturdy stairs. The result is a very solid and beautiful deck that will last for many years. The owner even contacted us a couple of months after completion to see how we liked it and wanted to stop by to see. He caught a couple of things that he didn’t feel was right and we didn’t even notice and pulled out his tools and fixed them to his standards on the spot. This was unexpected as it was someone who took pride in his work with quality over speed.

Buyer beware!! Jim Ferdon/affordable builders does not pay his suppliers for materials!! This potentially can cause Construction liens placed on your property even though you already paid a shady contractor! He’s literally stealing from suppliers on customers dime. Litigation pending 8/23

We discussed a certain time to meet every morning and they were late every day. Besides the fact that they were sloppy and semi destructive to my existing property. The construction was subpar. Smelly dirty workers in my clean house will never be accepted to me. The only recommendation I would give to anyone is that they shower before they come 🫤

Very Detail oriented…an independent contractor poured grout down my toilet and it was enough to create plumbing damage over time…the damages would have cost me 10 grand to repair with other company’s but affordable builders was able to knock out the problem for under 100 bucks

I have never dealt with such a catastrophic so-called professional business. Every time I try to make contact with them I couldn’t get in contact with them, all of their non-professional staff were catty and combative, and the inferior quality work was never finished. I wouldn’t recommend this outfit to anyone. Please do your research and tread very carefully when doing what this company.

Jim and his team did a great job and our newly finished basement looks very well done. He had a couple of suggestions that made a big difference and really added a nice touch.
