Many years ago, we had Mr. Halm, (Lisa’s dad) do our bathroom remodel. Therefore, two years ago when we had several projects, we contacted the company again. The owners and crew were friendly and professional. The proposals and contracts were clearly written. They were responsive to any questions we had. They made sure things were done correctly. I would recommend them to others without reservation.

I had a poor experience with them. I called them because they were recommended to me and had great reviews. Lisa picked up the first time and passed me to Joe and they kept talking about some huge job they have and how busy they always are so they never need new customers. Then they said I’m lucky I got through to them and they’d do my tiny project. They had a very weird process where I had to fill out a form on their website and wait a week to be contacted by their sister who deals with the online stuff. Then after waiting over a week they called to get the day set up that they’d come out for a quote. That day would be over a month later. Okay, that sucks but no problem. Let’s do it. (I’m sleeping in my living room at this time) When they came out to give me a quote I did not get a notice ahead of time like “on my way”. Joe showed up and was very friendly and said he would get a quote created. A few days of him not actually giving me a quote like he said, I finally get one. But it’s from Lisa and it seems like she didn’t know how to use the quoting system and every question I asked about the job she seemed clueless and didn’t understand half of what I asked. It got sketchy when I asked if I could pay extra to have an engineer stamp the project and they said it would be 1000$ or so more but if I wanted that they recommend I go with a different contractor. The contract didn’t have wording of exactly what Joe would do on the job so I asked them to edit that and I would be good to sign. In response, they came back with an arbitrary denial of service and refused to go forward with the project. They know my girlfriend is pregnant and we have been sleeping in the living room for months. Winter is about to hit and we have a missing ceiling with no insulation above it. And yet, they ignored my request for reconsideration. I didn’t hear from them again. (And money was not an issue)

This is our second time working with Halm & Perkins. The first project they had helped with was finishing the basement level of our house – two bedrooms, living room, bathroom, and home theater room. The most recent project included work on a home we had just purchased after having unexpected water entry into the house immediately following the purchase. While not the situation we had hoped for, the entire crew was fantastic to work with, and we are very thankful to have such wonderful people who were willing to lend a helping hand. They provide high quality work and we really value the feedback they provided throughout the process. Often times it felt like they considered our house as though it were their own, while keeping in mind any vision or inspiration that we have.

Joe and Lisa (and their team) are great to work with, very responsive and good with communication. They do the job the right way the first time. We’re so thankful our other contractor (Renew Restoration) hooked us up with them. They have done a bunch of work on our home: installing new granite countertops (that look fabulous), new flooring, bringing our fireplace mantle up to code, fixing various holes and whatnot, painting rooms, and installing new exterior doors. Their work looks great. They answered all my many questions too!

There wasn’t one thing that we didn’t enjoy and appreciate about hiring Halm & Perkins to do a complete renovation of our East Lansing condo which included: kitchen-living area with a two-story ceiling, entrances, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study-area, floors and walls. Joe and Lisa and their entire team were very professional and thoughtful and went above and beyond to help us with every detail. Originally, we were anxious about being able to find people that we could trust to create a design and suggest ideas that would work best for us and the space. From the first interview meeting Joe & Lisa our fears were assuaged and we liked them immediately. They made the entire process from start to finish easy. Both Joe and Lisa even got my husband’s quirky sense of humor and ran with it, keeping us all laughing. We did not expect to have so much fun with a renovation! We appreciated how well they listened to our ideas and questions and they never let us feel that anything we thought or asked was silly or stupid, communicating often with us via text, calls or emails and directing us to websites for ideas or clarification as needed. Joe and Lisa are a great team and often when we were stuck on a decision one of them would come through with photos or thoughts that helped what the other was suggesting so that we could understand. They both did a fantastic job guiding us through the myriad of decisions that were needed, or choosing something for us when we asked them to do so. They came up with ideas we would not have thought of like bricking some of the walls and we are so pleased with how that, and other ideas we trusted them with, turned out. We asked for more storage space and they made sure we had that in every room with ways we could not have thought up ourselves. We wanted more light in the combined kitchen-living area and they exceeded our expectations in providing that in new ways. We had some dreams we weren’t sure were feasible, like making room for a two person jacuzzi tub and they made it happen, thanks to Joe’s expertise and Lisa’s design ideas. When they didn’t know the answers they had experts to consult. I often felt like we were on an episode of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” with Chip & Joanna Gaines. We now walk into our condo and have happy sighs that we get to live here. Thanks, Joe & Lisa and the whole Halm & Perkins team!

What did you think of Halm and Perkins, LLC before you started with working with them? We were thinking of remodeling our kitchen in 2010. A very discriminating colleague said they had used them and were very happy with the results. I had a meeting with Jim and was very impressed so we went with them. What was your experience in working with Halm and Perkins, LLC? I have never seen a more pleasant work crew. They all seem so happy and work so well together. Joe and Lisa are very helpful when it comes to making decisions about how we want to proceed. We have used this company for the following extensive remodeling jobs: Kitchen remodel with all new cupboards, appliances, and flooring; master bathroom total remodel; converted a screened in porch to a beautiful three-season room with new energy efficient windows, doors, and flooring; tore out and built a beautiful new deck, and the last job was to remove a large built-in planter at the front door and replace it with a new stamped concrete front stairs and patio which is a great improvement to the front of our house. What would you like to tell someone that is considering using Halm and Perkins, LLC? They are honest, have a good work ethic, and have an excellent work crew. Have Joe come to your house and see your project and see what they can do for you. They are good people. We recommend them without reservation.

We had heard good things about Halm & Perkins from others who had used them in the past, so we decided to call them when we were ready to move forward with some outdoor decking projects. We were immediately impressed with the partnership we received. Joe and Lisa obviously care about building lasting relationships and strive to help homeowners realize their vision. Questions about materials and permitting were answered and they provided excellent design input that we didn’t even think of. The workers they employ are all top notch. Highly skilled, considerate, and neat. The final product turned out better than we hoped. Our only regret is that we signed on with some other contractors on a couple other projects before we found Halm & Perkins. We won’t be making that mistake again. They’re our go-to for home improvement from here on out. Highly recommended.

This is a great company that does great work. Our new Trex deck looks beautiful and was done with care and professionalism. The owner truly cares about his customers as well as his employees. They were always on time, working through bad weather and also did a great job cleaning up when the work was completed. We highly recommend Halm & Perkins.

Before contacting a contractor, I had a fairly good idea of the scale and cost of the project. I wanted a roof deck requiring no maintenance, using recycled/reclaimed materials. This meant I needed Trex®, so I reached out to contractors recommended by the manufacturer. Although Halm&Perkins was the 2nd company I called – the first “premier provider” left me irritated by an elitism tone and a ‘used car’ sales pitch – they should be at the top of everyone’s list! I couldn’t have been more pleased with the professionalism, honesty, integrity, and guidance offered by Joe, the Designer/Owner. Joe prepared a budget and stuck to it without exception. He offered invaluable suggestions/guidance regarding the project and was receptive to my thoughts and questions. My project was complicated by another contractor (spiral stair fabrication & installation) that was difficult and forgetful. Joe helped me to manage them (but shouldn’t have had to) and he did so with ease. He kept me informed of delays to the project (permit, materials, etc), and he thoroughly inspected his team’s work to ensure I received the best deck possible, which I did. I would highly recommend H&P for any home improvement projects you may have; I will be seeking their support when I’m financially ready to tackle a bathroom and kitchen remodel.

We hired Halm and Perkins, LLC for a bathroom/closet remodel and it turned into a bathroom, bedroom, closet remodel. They turned our ideas, challenges, and dream into reality. They actually listened to what WE wanted and what stressed US out. They were transparent through the process and the results were beyond our expectation. I would 100% recommend them!
