Finishing our basement was a long time dream project and we had plenty of ideas around the vision of an ideal basement, one that caters to all our needs yet presents the final product in its most effective aesthetic setting. We needed a partner who could advise us, challenge us and deliberate with us on design and execution. After a reasonable search we fortuitously found Ryan Overmyer of Northville Finished Basements. Me and my wife cannot say enough great things about Ryan’s meticulous process, planning, design and execution. His understanding of any given basement and opportunities and pit falls it may present is top notch and allows him to advise you on the best way to navigate and come out on top with an option that is structurally feasible and optically appealing. Another awesome aspect of execution is predictability of finish date as Ryan takes one project at a time and keeps you apprised every step of the way on next steps and expectations. Needless to say, we loved working with Ryan and would recommend him and Northville Finished Basements to anyone seeking a quality product while getting most value for their money.

Words alone cannot describe how pleased we are with the basement that Northville Finished Basements completed for us. The owner, Ryan, does the majority of the labor. He does not cut corners and takes pride in his work. He is very particular, so you can feel confident that the work is done properly. By just focusing on basements, Ryan has a lot of experience and he is very knowledgeable. He was also very honest to let us know if a project was a good idea, even if it was something we saw on Pinterest that looked cool! He is very neat when he works and discrete when he would enter and leave our home, as to not interrupt our daily routine. Our basement was completed in a timely manner, as Ryan would be at our home each day, focusing on just our basement. That speaks volumes, as he would rather finish a basement efficiently with high quality over quantity. He is also a very skilled craftsman, as he custom made shelves, beams and a bar countertop for our basement. We receive so many complements on the bar that he custom made and wish he could complete other renovations in our home! We have already strongly recommended Northville Finished Basements to our friends and we would in a heartbeat, recommend him to anyone who wanted a well-finished basement.

Ryan was an exceptional craftsman to work with when finishing our basement. He has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and insight he provides as he works to make your basement ideas come to life. When we first were looking to have the basement finished, the one thing that stood out with Ryan was his attention to detail, his honesty, his responsiveness and expediency. We originally chose to hire Ryan because he would finish our project quickly; he comes everyday until your job is done. He plans the project and executes it perfectly. No detail escapes his notice. Sometimes, things would bother him more than me! He was always honest about costs and what was possible and what was not. He is pleasant and authentic in his demeanor and was great to my kids on the few times they ran downstairs to see what “Mr Ryan” had accomplished that day. When he started the work, he was very tidy and always tried to be as unobtrusive as possible while working on our home. It took him only 2 months to complete our basement, and that is only because of the solid wood stair install. I don’t think we have any negative thing to say about Ryan, honestly. I wish he could remodel the rest of my house! If you want someone who will give your project all the attention it deserves, look no further than Overmyer Construction.

I would recommend Ryan to anybody looking to have their basement finished in the area. In my ~10 years of home ownership, Ryan is the easiest contractor I’ve ever worked with. He is super responsive to calls and texts, knowledgeable in his craft, and is personable to top it all off. We had our basement finished by Ryan towards the end of 2022, and the completed product exceeds our expectations. We liked a lot of things about our experience, but here are some things that stand out: – Ryan does about 95% of the work himself. I don’t like it when it seems like there’s a revolving door of subcontractors, all pointing fingers at each other when something goes wrong, but this wasn’t the case here. – Ryan has smart solutions for problems. One example: After the project started, my wife and I decided we wanted to add a finished closet *somewhere* in the basement. After a night of brainstorming, my wife and I pitched about 3-4 ideas to him the next day on where it could go. Ryan calmly and clearly explained why all of our ideas were bad (lol) but he found the perfect spot in like 10 seconds that we never even considered. – Ryan was very accommodating to another unique situation we had: Our toddler was home from daycare every Friday for the duration of the project and we were concerned the construction noise would impact his naps. But Ryan made a point to do more “quiet work” during our son’s nap time and it was never once a problem. – Ryan came back for a day after our project was officially finished to reattach our stair railing and do other touch ups that were necessary after our carpet install and couch delivery. Also, with the project now finished, he still responds to my questions about our basement with the same urgency as when we were a potential customer. To keep this review fair, I feel like I should list out some things that we did not love about our experience, but I feel like these are pretty minor: – He does not do demolition, so we had to hire another company before Ryan started to remove our terribly done partially finished basement left by the previous owners of the home. This wasn’t the end of the world though, and Ryan made this very clear from his first visit so we had ample time to prepare. – We wanted carpet in our main living area, and Ryan doesn’t install carpet himself. We had to hire somebody else after Ryan was finished to carpet the floor, but this worked out fine in the end and I would expect you would be in a similar situation with other contractors. Overall, we love the work that Ryan did for us. We’re still in the decorating phase, but I included a couple pictures of his work with this review. If you’re looking to get your basement finished, I would highly recommend contacting Ryan, I don’t think you will regret it.

If you are looking to finish your basement with the comfort and knowledge of a job done right, I would look no further than Overmyer Construction! Ryan is meticulous in his craft and work. His attention to detail and knowledge base is top notch. Ryan is prompt, responsive, and dependable. He will bring your basement ideas to life. Notably, he built beautiful shelving for my dry bar after I causally showed him a picture I saw on Pinterest. The real life product was even better and more creative than the picture (see attached picture–that lighting, c’mon)! When things didn’t go as planned with the vanity I personally ordered for my basement bathroom, Ryan was there to help offer alternative ideas and solutions and has returned to help even after my project was technically finished. I am so happy we chose Overmyer Construction. The quality of the work will serve our family well for years to come. Absolute 5 star recommendation! Call him today!

This is going to be a little lengthy, but we feel like Ryan deserves the same detail in a review that he put into constructing our basement space. My wife and I decided to hire Ryan to finish our basement in an older home in Plymouth. We definitely would recommend giving Ryan a call if you’re considering finishing your basement. I could go on and on why, but two main points struck a chord with us: First of all, Ryan was immediately responsive and able to provide an estimated price range with sq footage based on his experience before even seeing the space. The estimate ended up falling right in line with the actual total cost. We met with several companies that threw us through hoops and tried to say: a) we couldn’t get everything we wanted out of the space for our budget and b) we couldn’t get a breakdown of the why the quoted estimated prices were as high as they were. I feel like this was bait and switch BS since Ryan was able to deliver what we wanted, within our budget, and we were able to go to the vendors and pick out the fixtures we wanted (i.e. tile, cabinets, hardware, sinks, countertops etc.). Second, when Ryan came out to do an evaluation of the space he noticed our pipes were possibly cast iron under the slab, which he admitted in good conscience he couldn’t do work knowing there was potential for a pipe to burst and ruin our investment. So we had to hire a plumbing company to replace all the pipe with PVC, which I truly appreciated because it would have been awful to spend all that money just to have to tear up the floor down the line and redo some of the work. No other individual or company that came to see the space mentioned this, so that’s concerning to the say the least. Overall, we got everything we wanted out of the space and whenever an issue came up along the way Ryan was able to communicate to us the issue and come with several solutions to resolve the matter. We would recommend Ryan for his attention to detail, pleasantness, ease to work with, excellent communication and great value for the end result delivered.

First off, our basement came out AMAZING. It is honestly better than we hoped, and we had pretty high expectations going into the process. Working with Ryan was easy and fun. He listened to what we had to say, and offered his expert opinion whenever we struggled to make a decision. Several times, he offered us an option that we had never considered (that we ended up choosing and are thrilled with). Ryan is great at solving problems creatively (which seems very important for basement finishing since your vision needs to fit in an existing layout). He’s easy to get along with, works hard, and we hardly even noticed that he was here. Schedule-wise, he finished everything faster than we thought he would. Ryan also does almost all of the work himself, and his personal care really shines through in the final product. Price-wise, we got a couple quotes before choosing who to go with for our project. Ryan’s was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the competition. They use all the same materials; you’re just not paying for all the overhead of a larger company with Ryan. Honestly, I can’t say enough positive things about how our basement turned out, or about how happy we are that we went with Ryan. We would absolutely choose him again, and we highly recommend him!

We had our basement finished by Ryan and are very happy with the result! He helped perfect the layout design for the basement, took the time to explain options and had great recommendations for the materials used. Right from the get-go, Ryan was always on time, and displayed great work ethic throughout the project. The basement was always organized and clean while he was working. Ryan’s expertise was important throughout the process. His focus on detail and quality ensured an outstanding outcome. It was a pleasure to work with Ryan, and we highly recommend him!

We would like to heartily endorse all the existing reviews for Novi Finished Basements. We couldn’t be happier with the excellent work Ryan did for us. He is organized, clean, and has an impeccable attention to detail that guarantees you will be happy with the results. He was able to incorporate some unique requests made by my equally detail-oriented husband, and he did so in a professional and easy-going manner. We can recommend him without any hesitation, whatsoever. Seriously. Don’t bother with any other company out there. Novi Finished Basements is the absolute best.
