Worst concrete work I’ve ever seen. Obviously the lowest bid!

Portzen was contracted to renovate the main road in our downtown district. They’ve done nothing but cause problems. Everything from railroad crossings too narrow for snowplows to get through, to street corners that jut out into the main roadway so bad pedestrians were hit. It would appear no one can read a blueprint, or their engineers are toddlers. Alley exits aren’t centered, sidewalk lines are crooked. Just a general all around mess. But the main one for me, they caused a fire in my building due to negligence. They were not using water on a concrete saw designed to use water to cool the blade. And it sent errant sparks into a coal tunnel below causing a fire that affected three buildings. They’ve not only not taken responsibility for their actions, but continue to fall short of their expectations. The job was to be done a month ago, and they still aren’t done pouring sidewalks. To top that off, they’re only pouring 2” instead of 4”. Which indicates they will need to come back in the spring and do it again. This company has caused all of our downtown businesses to suffer, costing us thousands of dollars in lost revenue, lost clientele. If you are a city manager thinking of hiring Portzen, I highly discourage you from doing so. In fact, from the heart of a small business owner going into Christmas, I’m begging you, do not use Portzen Construction.

Doing construction in a plot across the street from where I live and often park in front of my house. Not an issue. I totally get it. Until I came home from doing some errands and their truck was parked in my driveway in front of my garage so I couldn’t pull into my driveway to get in. Seems unprofessional to park in a random persons driveway when you’re not performing services for them. Would’ve liked to park in my garage and not down the street.
