From the moment we met with Masheed and Rick, we knew we wanted to partner with them for our total home renovation. Rockwell Construction took on our project with the same care, respect and enthusiasm they would as if it was their own home. They are an organized construction company, with an incredible team of workmen/women and they are consistent in the subs they continue to work with for many years. Relationships in building are important to us, most especially when it came to our forever home and Rockwell Construction delivered above and beyond throughout the whole process. Our renovation, which took approximately 1.5 years and was just completed this Spring 2024, was made possible by the gifted Project Managers Rockwell employs, who were part of the process every step of the way. Our Project Manager, Rachel, took daily notes, photos and uploaded those to BuilderTrend so that all parties were on board with daily progress and project to-do’s. Billing was also a smooth process and there were never the surprises one hears about with construction change-orders because Rockwell Construction was so communicative and involved us in the process of any bidding of subs, estimates, etc. On top of all of this, they are highly skilled in the building trade and have worked on many different kinds of building projects: renovation, both historical and modern, so our project benefited from their collective expertise. Their experience in building also allowed us to engage in a lot of Design-build in the beginning which made for a better result at the end of the project (for instance, addition of more windows during framing, swapping storage and bathroom spaces to capture views). To walk away from a major renovation and for both parties, the homeowner and the builder, to be able to say “we enjoyed that experience and would work with one together again” is a pretty incredible phenomenon in the building industry. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Rockwell Construction to anyone who wanted to work with a thoughtful, purposeful and highly skilled company for their project.

Rockwell Construction completed a fantastic addition and bathroom remodel of our home in downtown Charleston. They did an incredible job of working within our budget and our timing needs to deliver an incredible finished product that we absolutely love. We recommend working with Rick and Masheed and their amazing and talented team of project managers and craftsmen.. they are simply the best.

When we purchased our 1870 home we very quickly realized it had been quite some time since anyone had given it much care and love. We feel incredibly fortunate to have been introduced to Rick Rockwell by our neighbors. From the first time he stepped into the house and started conversation we knew what great love and passion he has for old and historic buildings. Rick and everyone on the Rockwell team including his wife Masheed (who is truly a gem) always had our best interest at heart and love what they do. Our project manager was invaluable and always there for us to address our questions and concerns. Never having taken on a project of this size we don’t know what we would have done without their attention to detail, excellent craftsmen and expert knowledge. The Rockwell’s are the best at what they do and kind and caring people. We would recommend them to anyone without hesitation!

Finding a good contractor is nerve wracking. Finding a good contractor on the other side of the country, with little insight into the market, nor the house that is being renovated, is even more stressful. Enter Rick Rockwell, a man of many words that will help calm your anxiety, build trust and deliver on beautiful work. I interviewed four contractors and Rick Rockwell was actually not available for my gut renovation. I told my architect to try again, because I knew that the person that we brought on would have to be more than a contractor. This person would be the arbiter of our home and the keeper of a family legacy that dates back to the 1800s. I am glad that I got him to take on the job. Not only did I get a contractor who does amazing work, but his team and specifically his business partner wife and our project manager were responsive, professional, proactive and talented. Even through the trials of the pandemic, work proceeded and updates to timelines were communicated. Construction is never without hiccups, but if you are looking for a company that delivers on their work, takes pride in what they do and treats your home as if it was their own, you needn’t look further.

Rockwell Construction is an oasis among the complex construction terrain. If you are like me – where do you begin with the preservation of your historic home? And who can you trust with such a complicated investment. I am beyond pleased with my experience with Rockwell construction and would highly recommend this company that is filled with people who care about your home as much as you do. So, if you don’t know where to start – begin the conversation with this thoughtful team of historic home heroes – grateful I did!
