I called this place today after receiving several mailers from them. I called about a brick courtyard at the front of my house which needs work. The gal who took my call immediately informed me that my project was too small without having any specific details. She said they wouldn’t look at anything under $10,000. My project is not an under $10,000 project, but she chose to just dismiss my inquiry without collecting sufficient information. I left my info and they didn’t call back. Their reception is horrendous and that is the face of their company. No wonder they need to send so many fliers. If their reception did better, they probably could thrive on word of mouth. After reading other reviews, it appears their workmanship matches their reception. I believe others have mentioned the words pompous and full of themselves. Go elsewhere, do better!

They didn’t give a courtesy call or follow-up call on dead plants for 6 months. When they finally responded, they gave excuses that they were too busy. Not professional at all.

Mark and his team just completed our landscaping and we are thrilled. It’s beautiful and exceeded our expectations. His crews were on time, friendly, professional, and left the yard spotless at the end of each day – they are A-Rate in my opinion. Mark created a masterpiece! He and his crews have been doing this a long time and we’re glad we chose his company for our landscape design and installation. Mark also provided irrigation and masonry/concrete referrals which we’re also very happy with. Overall, an exceptional and seamless experience. We look forward to enjoying our yard for years to come!

This has been the worst experience. We clearly should have heeded the warnings of others that Mark was arrogant, pompous, non-responsive and the plants/trees/shrubs failed. We too had plans of doing an entire yard renovation starting with new landscaping in the back. Mark was clearly put out that we wanted to do the project in phases. We now realize we were a small project to him though it was a big expense to us. Like others, we were happy with the initial project. When plants/shrubs/trees failed, we called about replacements covered under warranty…and called..and called…and stopped in the office. When they finally sent someone- only limited items were replaced. We were not sure what things were called as the design plan has no names on it! We are in year 3 and continue to watch things die even though we have a sprinkler system so watering is not this issue. Beyond disappointed and would not recommend! As our voicemails have said, we would still welcome a return phone call.

Mark and the Exterior Design Studio team brought our outdoor dreams come true with what they put together for a design, education of us on our longer-term vision, and high-quality execution of work on a timely basis. We had some unique previous circumstances with our property for which Mark was able to appropriately adjust our plan as we moved through the construction, and he continued allowing for later modifications as we began to better envision what we wanted our outdoor environment to look like. Mark was transparent from the beginning that he wants his customers to enjoy a no-stress experience, and he certainly stayed true to his word through execution of the project, questions I had along the way, and follow-up matters that we had. He has also helped us with his other networking connections for additional work we are looking to complete, which has been incredibly appreciated. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome of our work, and use our entire outdoor space in a new way. We now entertain quite frequently and have received significant compliments from others we have had over. THANK YOU!!!

I hired EDS around 5 years ago for a landscaping project in Excelsior/Chanhassen. We did have some misunderstandings in terms of the contract and pricing. However, Mark did revise the agreement and corrected the problem. We also had a mistake with how many feet the fence should be around a fairly large area. He had the entire gate removed and installed a new one with no resistance. Unfortunately, I am reading some of these reviews stating that EDS does not stand behind its promises and correct things when need be. I don’t want to disparage other people’s experiences, but that was not my experience. EDS was even wrongfully blamed by my builder and the developer for water issues with the property. I, as an uneducated consumer, believed the buck-passing. However, after much research and legal proceedings, it was proven that EDS had nothing to do with the problems we encountered. Mark is the most talented Landscape Designer you will find, period. His knowledge is second to none in terms of his skill set with plants, flowers, and general design aesthetics. The execution and organization of the project itself can be a touch rough around the edges, but that is typical with highly talented people from an artistic standpoint. If you want an authentic oasis feel and a unique design for your yard, EDS is the best in the business.

EDS did a terrific job adding on to our patio, they made solid recommendations that really added value to the back yard. We are extremely pleased!
