My compressor started to make a bad loud noise like a helicopter so I knew it was something with the fan. I couldn’t get it to stop. I called McElroy and they sent Nick out within the hour. Even in the sweltering heat he took the time to find and fix the issue. My compressor purs like a kitten once again. Nick also took the time to answer a few of my questions. I’m a happy customer

UPDATE: They contacted me and made things better. I still need a new unit and am working towards that, but they came out again and Chad checked my unit to make sure there was absolutely anything else they could do to help my situation. That is top notch service. I told him about my experience, he shared what they did and could have done better, he did some more troubleshooting along with refunding the previous charge and found that I indeed do need a coil and the best thing is to replace the whole unit. He gave me some more options and told me the kind of financing they offer. He made me feel at ease with the fact that he came out to check if he could absolutely do the best to make me feel comfortable with the situation. I’ll leave the original post up, but know that they do have the best customer care. Maybe their tech had an off day, and we all definitely have ours. Original post: I was told by a friend to trust this company with all my HVAC needs. It all went well, I got their monthly $10 plan, which is for them to come out and look at your system twice per year. I figured, if anything is about to go wrong or break, they would let me know… not really. I finally had a problem with my system a couple of weeks ago and called for them to come out; the tech was courteous and looked at the indoor and outdoor units and tells me I need a new capacitor and a refill of the refrigerant, which comes to a total of $435. I pay it because I have an autoimmune disorder that makes me unable to regulate my body temperature. While we’re making small talk, a huge BOOM, followed by others a few seconds later. He goes out and fixes whatever made that sound… ok, weird. He leaves. About 3 days go by and the unit is having a heck of a time keeping my house under 72, I change my thermostat batteries thinking maybe that’s the issue and nothing. Finally, a couple more days go by and I set another appointment. Same tech comes to look at my system only to tell me the refrigerant leaked out and I need a new evaporative coil for the inside unit, oh and by the way, it will be another $2500 for that plus the refrigerant… WHAT!? I can’t do that! I don’t have that kind of money laying around! Why didn’t he check the pressure before? Why did he say the capacitor would fix my issue? My husband and I discuss what we’re going to do to fix this problem and the only solution we see is to get a new unit installed by a different company. My husband suspects that whatever that boom was, even if it was on the outside unit, may have been what damaged the coil. I doubt they will do the right thing and fix what they broke, but I still call to cancel the monthly plan, and a manager tells me that she will speak with the tech about what happened because their notes only said that my inside unit was frozen… so the tech missed the little detail about making my entire house rattle when the outside unit did whatever after he installed the capacitor. She said she would cancel the plan at my request and call me back after speaking with the technician. We spoke yesterday and so far, today at the end of the business day, I have not heard back from her. I am not a difficult customer or tend to get angry at people, specially service people, but this has me fuming. It seems they do a good job for others, but this time for me and from my point of view, it seems the tech was here to make sales more than to provide a much needed service. Hope it goes much better for future customers.
