Alternative Heating & Air is the best HVAC service in Chico that I recently discovered. This company is a great choice for people that don’t want to be oversold or upsold on services and systems they may not need. I needed my older generation/ancient Lennox AC unit serviced in Chico and based on several online descriptions and reviews, I decided to call Alternative Heating & Air. The HVAC technician, Tom, ran some diagnostics and let me know up front that that expensive refrigerant replacement was not needed and proceeded to check all of the other aspects of the system (vents, dirty coils, filters). Tom provided great service and explained all of the potential causes of reduced cooling and fixed the problem at a reasonable cost with cleaning and filter optimization. He spent extra time explaining the operation of the system and causes of reduced air conditioning performance. During the visit, there was no hint of trying to upsell me to a better system, but I did ask his advice for replacement after the eventual demise of my antique system. For customers that need a trusted service where they will not be taken advantage of, Alternative Heating & Air would be my strong recommendation. Based on this great service and Tom’s willingness to explain tech info to help me better understand the HVAC system, I will be relying on Alternative Heating and Air for all future HVAC services and eventual equipment replacement. 5+ Stars for service and integrity!

We had just come back into town right in the middle of a late spring heatwave only to find our AC had given up the ghost. The place was an oven. Then along came Alternative Air to save the day! We knew we had found something special when we spoke with lovely Robin on the phone. She was very sweet and was able to have someone come out right away. It made our day, and she said it made hers to be able to help people out. The Tom showed up at our place. Absolutely the nicest guy you could meet. He figured out our problem (and our neighbor’s) and got the job done quickly and professionally, and despite the heat, he was an absolute pleasure to work with. You can tell that Tom and Alternative Air are really committed to making sure their customers are happy and satisfied with the job, and we will absolutely call them next time we have we have an HVAC issue. Five Stars all the way!

HVAC- heater was not working. Tom came, very friendly and went to work. He diagnosed the problem, drew a diagram of what was happening and offered to order the part himself or I could order it myself, install and save the cost of installation. He even discussed how to install safely as this was more plug and play. I installed it myself, but found there was a secondary problem which we later found was due to when PGE installed a Smart AC controller. I left a message being a Saturday and hoped to get a second appointment the next week. He called me back in an hour (they are closed on weekends) and he fixed the problem (PGE incorrectly wired my heater) in 30 minutes of arrival. He did not charge me for the trip but I gave him a nice tip as it was very generous of him to come out on his day off. tldr – Great small family business which offered a DYI alternative and when I needed more help went above and beyond. Will not hesitate to recommend or call. There is a reason their ratings are so high. Thank you Tom!

Great company. My AC went out the first day of triple digit weather. I called their office, and they had a friendly, experienced technician at my house in less than two hours, and they had all the parts stocked already in the truck and had my air on in minutes. I highly recommend them over any other company due to pricing, customer service, and their complete thoroughness in all the work that they do. Their commitment to excellence is worth the peace of mind that comes with trusting them for all your energy needs.

No complaints at all. They were able to make an appointment for the same day (even with this heat wave we are having) and diagnose and fix the problem immediately. Can’t ask for more than that. He was running a bit late but I received a call letting me know that. Most companies don’t even bother, so that was very much appreciated.

Tom from Alternative Air is outstanding. On a hot day (Sunday) our a/c did not come on. The following morning I called Alternative and Tom arrived in an hour. He immediately was able to diagnose the problem and repair. He was very informative and professional. I will never have anyone other than Alternative Air service our heating and A/C equipment. Just outstanding service.

Last fall, my mom’s a/c wasn’t cooling her house. Called another business, service person stated her unit was leaking and couldn’t be repaired. Estimate to replacement unit was $11,000. Fast forward to this week, we decided to get another opinion and/or estimate. Called Alternative Heating and Air, they were able to come out quickly. Tom, the owner stated that the unit most likely has a pinhole leak and that others would say it’s not repairable but it is. Long story short, they were able to stop the leak and refill the coolant for $750. My mom’s on a fixed budget and while it was still $750, much more doable than $11,000. My mom stated Tom was super friendly, he even cleaned ac unit, replaced the filters and even helped my mom set her thermostat!! Thank You Alternative Heating & Air!!
