Steve was fine. Floors ended up good. He clearly knows his stuff. A little too well, in that he got lazy on our project. In the end, you’ll know that the communication was horrible (mostly handled by Janine) and the end result will be decent but won’t wow you. Pricing is likely in line with that. We got three quotes, $2700, $3300, and $3500. S&J was $3300. I would say just don’t trust their communication at all. They will be all over the place in what days to move stuff, what days they’ll be done, when you can walk on it, etc. Just plan on 12 days of mayhem for 1000 sq ft and you’ll be good. One last thing, they tell you it is a three coat system, but it is stain, then two coats. Very, Very misleading. Update: By lazy I mean, there is white stain all over my house where it shouldn’t be. Nearly every door handle is stained because he didn’t clean his hands, there is a permanent footprint on the entryway, there is stain on the dark kitchen cabinets, he left two hardboards here that I had to get rid of for him. There are little white beads of stain coming up between boards. Just lazy. Oh, and the communication piece I am referring to is that 4 days before our project started, the wife’s cell phone was disconnected by her carrier and I could not reach them in any way. I wrote their email on the website but never got a review. Never was given Steve’s number. The 12 days refers to 2 days to move your stuff, 5 days of work, then 5 days before you can put rugs back down. Steve told us only 3 days for furniture, but I actually read the label of the Bona coating he used and it clearly said 5 days for rugs (which furniture is on top of) so 12 days. Also, little lazy that he said 3 days when the product he is “certified” to use clearly says 5 on it.

Steve is a master at all things wood 🙂 we have had him d the living room and main hall, then we’re so impressed by the work had him do the main stairway and rails even thought it was a 6 month wait. Again we were so impressed with the work we had him do the remaining bedrooms, once again the work was perfection.

This was definitely not a positive experience. They were argumentative and not able or willing to answer simple questions about their process. The cost doubled because some lumber in front of the dishwasher needed to be replaced. Find another company.

This was the worst refinishing experience ever. And may I say this was not my first refinishing experience so I can speak with confidence. It is 3 years later and I find myself hiring an new re-finisher to fix the disaster he left behind. He forgot to do repairs we clearly discussed and then tried to do them after he had sanded, stained and varnished. Very poor results of course. Then he left a puddle of dried stain in the corner. And once he was gone, he was gone. His wife, who works in the office, never returned any phone calls. I keep his card to remind me NOT to ever call this company again. Do not let their initial charm blind you. You have a 50/50 chance of having a good outcome with this crew.

S&J were wonderful to work with. Our floors were in need of help and they came to the rescue. The finish product is absolutely amazing and we were so happy to come across S&J. I highly recommend them!

S&J did a wondrous job on my hardwood floors and laying new lament in my bathroom. I needed repairs & refinishing work on my oak floors. S&J did the work quickly and professionally. The entire process was explained in advance. Then each step was explained as we went. I was well informed. There was fuss, no mess, talent smoothly. I can easily reccomend them for flooring needs.

Both Janene and Steve were so helpful throughout the entire process of getting our hardwood floors stained and redone. They were professional and prompt with their communication. Janene would always text us or call us back no matter what time. They even worked late hours and overtime to make sure that our floors were done by our move in date. We were so grateful for them and so happy with the way our floors turned out! We couldn’t have asked for better service!

We contracted with S&J to replace painted wood trim around a stairwell with oak to match the adjacent flooring. Steve and Janene are real nice, so I regret having to give them such a negative review, but the workmanship and follow-through were way below our expectations. There were large gaps (both horizontal and vertical) between the new wood that was installed and the existing flooring, a couple of joints were poorly fitted, there were numerous stains (from the oak stain) on our white walls, and numerous drips of poly on our existing stairs. The filler was missing in one area, and was settled in other areas. We asked Steve to come out again and repair the most glaring faults, which he did (although he forgot the appointment and came out the following day), but there was only so much that could be done at that point to overcome the original shortcomings in workmanship. We were annoyed that Janene ran the final credit card charge immediately when the work was finished, without our authorization and without giving us an opportunity to fully inspect the work. We have asked at least three times over the last week for a final statement/receipt of payment, but still haven’t received one. I get the feeling that S&J is just too busy to pay attention to workmanship and customer service.
