We needed a handicapped accessible master bathroom on short notice. Alexei Ford Design came through with speed and style: doors widened, tiled shower rebuilt with a roll-in floor, safety bars and a lovely glass wall. We are very pleased with the finished project. We would give them our highest recommendation

Not a great experience. Initially Alexai was very nice and responsive, but our patience grew thin when each design failed to meet our expectations and the costs tallied. We pivoted projects but this time nothing but delays. We never did settle on a workable design for the first project and never started the second after 6 months. Because he has his clients sign a contract for design consultation, we racked up beyond $7,000 over the course of a year for nothing but frustration, inactivity and one cabinet. Also, you should know that each email and phone call gets billed (which is terrible for direct and efficient communication but again good for them to collect $). I do not recommend Alexai Ford Design or Build as they have disappointed me on both fronts. Save your time and money and look elsewhere for better design and better builders. Sketchy business practices who are better at covering themselves than providing service. Sad really.

Alexei Ford is the best contractor I’ve worked with in a long time. He is kind, communicative, conscientious and has an amazing eye for design. His bids are on target, he always sets the expectations for time frames and scope of work, and bills in a timely manner so there are no last minute surprises. His whole team is wonderful and clean! From the tile guy, to trim and painters, to their crew leaders, I cannot say enough about how easy and stress free they are to work with. They clean as they go and have a high standard of cleanliness for their jobs. Thank you Alexei Ford for making things so fun and easy to work through. Even last minute changes are stress free! Great job!

Alexei Ford and Co. do excellent work for the price. I have used them 3 times and have been very satisfied each time. The workers and project managers communicate very well. The cost is always close to the estimate.

I moved into my condo in Bellingham in the middle of the pandemic, and wanted to do a good bit of work – new kitchen, paint, variety of upgrades big and small. I was referred to Alexei by my realtor, and continue to be grateful for this. I have used him now for 2.5 years, and will continue to use him as I have new projects. He and his team are amazing. My experience has been consistent – their work is of consistently high quality. I also feel like I have received considerable personal attention – and this during a period where that has been challenging (pandemic, supply chain, staffing, etc.) Whenever I have needed something, and needed something quickly, he and his team have come through for me, and within the budget we have determined. But what I have been most impressed with were his solutions to things – I propose one idea, and he comes out personally, looks at it, and says – what about this? Consistently a better idea, both from a design and a function perspective. I consider myself a good problem solver – nothing compared to him. His design sense is spot on – no surprise there. And he also fixes things. I worked with Lowes to get my kitchen redone, and it was pretty much a disaster. I wish I had just worked with Alexei. His team had to come in several times to fix what Lowes had messed up, and often in a time crunch. I read the negative review about the billing. I will confess that the first time I read one of his invoices it got my attention – certainly not what I have come to expect from handy-man types. But he is not a handyman – he’s a designer and contractor. Most importantly, it always worked out in the end, and I feel like I got great value from both a dollar and design perspective. And his team is consistently wonderful – I have loved all of them, and I can be a little persnickety about service.

Amazing experience and top notch quality work! I needed to replace my rotting deck and front porch and I wanted a more functional and beautiful space. Alexei listened to my concerns and designed a deck that is better than I could have imagined! His team is talented and professional and my project came in on time and on budget.

His bill charged me 45 minutes to contact a plumber, 45 minutes to set up a site visit, write an e-mail, and read an e-mail, a half hour to review a plan, a half hour for “oversight”, a half hour to call a heating service, an hour to make an estimate, an hour to send an e-mail and schedule a visit, among other dubious charges — all at $66 dollars an hour. His subcontractors spent all of about an hour doing work at my place and the total bill was over $1100 dollars. When I questioned it, I was told this was “standard practice” and he threatened legal action. Believe me, you can do better. Update: I reported him to the State Attorney Generals office and he had 30 days to provide any explanation or comment, and they indicated that he chose to not comply. File number 599627 in case you want to look it up in the public record. Update: He did respond to the State Attorney General, after their deadline. But it’s something. Update: Alexei Ford sued me, took me to court, and the judge found that he billed me for services which were not performed and he charged me a 20% premium on all subcontractor services which the judge deemed bad business practice, and so ruled against him. Thankfully, I’ll only be paying for work actually performed. Kudos to the Whatcom County District Court and the process. Thanks for taking me to court, Alexei, it saved me a bundle.
