After a small flood in our basement American Water Damage was the first call our plumber made for us, and we couldn’t be more grateful. They were so communicative and helpful every step of the way, helping us navigate cleanup, insurance hurdles, and repairing the damage to our specifications. I specifically have to shout out Phoenix, Todd, Mark, and Courtney who were all so great at keeping the process moving, making sure we were looped in, and being available for questions. They all made a terrible situation so much more bearable.

I’m going to try and keep this as short as I can. I would suggest that anyone who is having a water emergency STRONGLY look into the other mitigation companies within the state. There are plenty of them and they will all make it their business to be there in case of an emergency. This company has a lot of misleading and downright illegal practices. The sales reps WILL lie to you to close the sale. A small puddle will turn into tearing apart your entire house if they can convince you. Fine. I am not necessarily a scorned customer but I feel obligated to let anyone reading this know there ARE better and more honest companies to go through. No one there would pass a drug test for starters. They came to do a simple carpet job. They called it “drying in place” well now my entire basement living area reeks of weed. Again, that’s fine but there is no professionalism. Between going back and forth from their vans and into my home a small carpet job turned into multiple days of work. When I asked them to leave I was told that they would put a lien on my home by the “manager” Joe/John (I can’t remember his name exactly but it’s one of the two) you can’t miss him. He is the short one who calls himself the leader of the team. I also heard the way he spoke to his employees and couldn’t believe most of what he said. Unprofessional. Their business practices are unlawful and the kids they send out are people I wouldn’t trust to babysit my pet rock. I hope no one else falls victim to these people. There are other mitigation companies that you can seek out that will do the job a lot quicker and without the uneasiness that this company brings. This is before we even delve into the relationships that they have with some of the plumbers. These are our homes, insurance/deductibles are costly. Insurance fraud is nothing to joke with. I strongly recommend anyone reading this to reconsider. This company is not worth the risk. Ask around before you give these people your time, money, and most importantly, access to your home. Thank you.

It looks like this company is under new management, which is a good thing, because our experience with the old regime was horrific. We had a leaky kitchen sink faucet cause some water damage and had to get new flooring in our kitchen. The plumber we had recommended American Water Damage so we had them come up. The first guy was fine and actually helped us out with the insurance adjuster. They did the demo and tore up our kitchen. Then….we waited. And waited. And waited some more. When we would call them, we wouldn’t get our calls returned. They had the first part of the money from the lender, the insurance company, and our initial payment as well. However, they took over a year from there to complete the job. They ended up blaming us, saying that because we hadn’t paid everything up front is why the job wasn’t being completed. Along the way they switched management so we got lost in the shuffle. We lived with a torn up kitchen, no dishwasher, and paper plates for a year (first world problems, I know, but a huge inconvenience) We started finally getting some calls from them about paying the rest of the money, to which we said you’ve been paid the proper amount so far, we need you to finish the work, then get the inspection, then you get the rest of the money. They showed up one day to do the work, and John, the person now in charge, leaned down to me and said “You’re paying me $2000 today right?” Another day he showed up at our house (still with an demolished kitchen) and had a check from the lender written out to us that he said I must sign over to them. It was like working with the mafia. I felt like we were being extorted. They finally, after we threatened legal action, came to complete the work. We got the inspection and some of the work was not completed to a satisfactory level. They called us demanding the rest of the money. We told them they should have known from the inspection that there was work still to be completed. They finally arranged to come back and finish the work, but only when we released the last of the money to them. we refused, as we had no guarantee or faith they would come back and finish the work. Then I got a message from John stating they were going to put a lien on our house. I told him good luck with that (I knew from being in the mortgage business that they can’t do that). He also stated that he had told corporate from the beginning that we would be a “No pay job”. That was one of the most insulting things I have ever heard in my life. Both my wife and I work very hard for everything we have and are not out to cheat anyone. Only after threatening more legal action did they come and complete the final work and we paid them the rest of the money. Our kitchen was finally done, a mere 14 months since the water damage. On his way out, John told me “I hope you don’t have water damage again” I said “don’t worry, if we do I sure as hell won’t be calling you”. That guy was such an A$$hole and used intimidation as a tactic to both my wife and I and his contractors. He did say he was retiring soon so hopefully he did and he’s not there anymore. I hope the company is better run now. We won’t be using them ever again for anything and this story is mainly to just say my side of it, and how poorly my wife and I were treated. There were some delays on our end with the lender and the insurance company but nothing was intentional or should have been seen as trying to scam them. In the end, it was us who got scammed. So go ahead and use this company if you must, but make sure John isn’t the one in charge.

I accidentally left a sink running in my upstairs laundry room when I got an urgent phone call. Water pooled and quickly started pouring through my downstairs light fixture. Ben was willing to come out quickly to help out. He did a full assessment and was able to tell me all the places where the water had traveled, how to remediate it, and even which direction to face my fans. Because of Ben’s extensive expertise and sense of urgency in helping me out, I had no permanent damage! He even followed up to check in to see how it was going and asked if I had questions or concerns a few days later. Had I not found Ben to help me out, I fear I would have had residual issues and damage. Thank you Ben – you saved the day, and probably a very expensive construction project. I can’t recommend American Water Damage enough.

I had water getting under my bathtub. Ben and his team did a great job removing the tile, while protecting everything else in the bathroom. They were very attentive to the progress being made to get everything dry. Angel, Jack, and Devin were all great. Devin even remembered to turn his baseball cap around so he didn’t scare my dog when he came to pick up the equipment. It was very nice of him!

Beware what you get with this company, we had a sewer back up in our home we had AJ come out to our home and he explains on how the mitigation process would go. Aj Represents the company very well and the way he explained to us we decided to go with American Water Damage. Jack and his crew came to our home and started ripping the drywall out and cutting away the carpet in our basement. Then they put up fans and other Machines to soak up the water. Jack came to me The next day about a possible asbestos in a Downstairs bedroom so I had previous pictures Of our damage and there was tack strips That were nailed through the asbestos, Jacks crew removed them nails. So I said to jack get the tile tested because they removed the nail’s through the causing this to be airborne throughout our house. His response was that you are allowed to expose so much without causing harm, so I called multiple asbestos companies and they said that is false. So Jack got it tested and said it takes 24 hours to a day and a half to get your results. I waited four days and I called him and he said that he would get back to me, called him on 5th day I asked about what is going on with the mitigation process because I haven’t heard anything about The asbestos results. He ends up telling me that it came positive for asbestos. So I was very disappointed that they exposed me and my family And himself and his crew members, while all the fans and my furnace fan were blowing around for eight days straight. They even removed the tax strips in my living room that went right through all the asbestos tile. I called his boss and explained on how upset I was about this and they still seemed it was no big deal. The other issues I had with them was they where changing me $69 to move my washer and $700 to move and reinstall my dryer which they never touched, I called the company and talked to Wyatt and He said that they did disconnect my washer and dryer and they hooked it back up. I told Wyatt that’s a Complete lie, and that I have a timestamp picture before their company even came in with my washer disconnected and moved away. He said that he would call me back later. Wyatt called me and said as a courtesy they were going to remove them charges I explained to him how is that a courtesy when they did not do the work and he still told me they moved it, but they were going to do it as a courtesy to me. Then he said why are you saying anything because Insurance is paying for it and I explained to him this is the reason why peoples deductibles go up because you are overcharging for things that you do not do and then he got mad at me and explained to me. It’s not them that causes deductibles to go up. It’s because I filed a claim. I did not go with them for the rebuild because of the mitigation problems, but they did give me a estimate for the rebuild, and there were multiple overcharges of things that they did not do and the examples of that is they said they were going to paint in my laundry room, but they’re never was paint in that room. The other one was when I asked for the mitigation bill they were still about $800+ more than it was supposed to be so I had to challenge them on that and then they finally sent me the right bill after I had to go over it. Just be careful with this company and ask for The itemized bill before you sign anything with them because they are not trustworthy I believe. I believe they are trying to take advantage of people because most people want to trust companies like this because they help people out in need. Shaun Brust Sr
