Terrible Service with an Attitude! My first conversation with this gentleman was horrible. The initial call he starts to tell me what I don’t want and need. His whole attitude was sour. I’m trying to get a few estimates so I can make an informed decision,so, against my gut, I set a time for this gentleman to come. He does arrive on time, (that’s why I gave the review 1 star) but his attitude when he saw me was very unprofessional. He asked ridiculous questions like “have you got quotes yet?” I told him “yes” and he immediately snapped back and said “well that isn’t gonna work because…” and rambled on about the variance of quotes. At this point I sensed he really didn’t want my business. I asked him to follow me back to the front of my house and I shook his hand and dismissed him. VERY SNOBBY AND UNPROFESSIONAL. There are many companies out here who will treat you with respect and are friendly. SUPERIOR OUTDOOR DESIGNS WASN’T THAT WITH ME.

I had this company build my 20×14 feet deck in 2019. The owner Ryan Sultenfuss and his employee Robert Steele agreed to place the post in the ground 18”. To sum up the project in a few words I was scammed out of $21,041. There are 13 posts with 13 bags of concrete in a 12” hole supporting my 20×14 deck which should have been 39 bags. I sued in an arbitration hearing and won in 2022. Guess what? Ryan stated he wasn’t obligated to dig 18” which is the requirement on the concrete bag and stated this from his mouth. Be aware it (18“) wasn’t listed in the contract which allowed him to deceive me. Yes he had help with the subcontractor (Hector). He refused to pay damages over $15k. I sued again (3 times) at the small claims court and won again. He manipulated and lied to 3 judges stating he wrote and sent a check for $15k which is a lied. I filed Writ of Execution and he stated he gave the Deputy $3000 and promised to pay me $1,000 each month. Again he lied. I been fighting this case since 2019. As an Army Veteran I trusted this owner. If you want your dream deck built substandard where the owner will cut corners, this is the company to hire. I have a deck with no joist hangers to support weight. The structural engineer found 9 major deficiencies. My deck is shifting, loose and not safe to use. I only walked on my deck less than 25 since it was built in 2019 due to not holding load bearing weight. I will see him in court again for the 5th time. That’s Ryan kneeling next to the 12 inch hole with 1 bag of concrete.

Fantastic experience the entire project. Communication was top notch: they called everyday explaining what part of the project they were going to work on. Nikki was so helpful with scheduling everything. They came out a day after the HOA approved and dropped off materials and even started the project that day.

These guys made my 10X10 deck and did an AMAZING JOB!! Especially for the price. I recommend them for any deck type. I’m extremely happy and excited.

Edit: Gave Superior a second chance, had them come out and build the patio after all. The work is fantastic and was all completed in just a few hours by Ron. Still waiting on the roofing, but has been a much better experience and much better communication thus far. Should have read reviews before having them come out. It’s been two weeks since representative came out to quote us a price and draw up preliminary paperwork to start the process. Agreed to do business with them with the notion that they were “different than everyone else” and that they will be “communicative and hands on” through the whole process. Well after waiting two weeks to get the next steps started and multiple attempts to reach them, with no response. I do not feel secure giving them money and then not completing the work or not finishing what they promised.

I’m sure this company has a very strong reputation of quality builds in the region for upper and corporate class in the region, the concern is they are NOT a company our communities average middle class homeowners would hire. My family and I solicited a project quote for a one layer polygal pergalo roof project (12’x14′). We were quoted almost $14 a square foot, when the Regal Plastic company here in San Antonio only charges $6 a square foot for their standard polygal product. Superior Outdoor Designs claim to be “aggresively priced” which is a misnomer or a play on language interepretation. Their cost includes company insurance, job leads, transportation, location, high end hardware, and this does not even include the labor of install. This company SHOULD ADVERTISE they ONLY do projects for the UPPER & CORPORATE CLASS in the Bexar County Region. They have an extremely professional sales team that are very knowledgable and equally aggressive at defending exorbitant cost. Again NOT a Company for the average MIDDLE CLASS Homeowner – ESPECIALLY at the END of a WORLD WIDE Pandemic. RECOMMENDATION: Update your website accordingly !!

Nothing to offer. Representative had a bit of info about negative outcomes, made you feel bad about plans and then disregarded . I allotted an hour out of schedule per the schedulers recommendation but about 25 minutes in , trying to glean what the company could do for us the employee said , “ well whatever, I have other appointments I need to get to so” . Don’t recommend unless you want a negative 25 minutes in your day . My experience was not Superior not even average.

Just had a beautiful deck built by Superior. Robert initially came out and took some measurements and gave us some great ideas and suggestions. He was really personable and made us feel comfortable. Work started shortly after and we were in constant communication with Ryan, which I loved! I have nothing but great things to say and would highly recommend using them!

About two weeks ago, two representatives came to my home to give me an estimate on replacing my front steps and back patio. They were on time, courteous and professional. To do my front concrete steps, I was given an estimate of $1200.00 which, I was told, was the minimum they could charge for a project. Even though it’s a small job, I understood. I told them I would let them know as I still had other people coming out to give me an estimate. Let’s fast forward. I decided to go with Superior Outdoor. They didn’t come in at the lowest price, but I saw some pictures of their work and liked what I saw. I also liked the fact they are an actual company with a brick and mortar shop versus being individual contractors. I called and asked for the next step. Was told someone would come out so we could draw up the contract. When the young man arrived at my house this morning, it was at that time he was trying to figure out how much the project would cost. It was at that time he was trying to reach his boss in order to get this amount before he could give me the figure. At that point, I was quite annoyed because I’m not sure what the first visit was for nor do I understand why he could not have prepared this info from the time I called asking them to take on the project to before he rang my doorbell this morning. He then let me know his boss was at the doctor. It was then I asked about the $1200.00 estimate from @ 2 weeks ago. He said that wasn’t the estimate given. I know for a fact it was. I went to get my note tablet where I always make my notes and $1200 is what was written. He then said Bob usually writes the estimate on the back of his card. I went to get the card that was given to me. Nothing was written on the card. The rep talked to me as if I was lying. He then let me know the job would be at least $1500.00. Even though the price was not outlandish, this is not what I was told. He then asked me if I wanted to go forward as if he either couldn’t wait to leave or was trying to pull the old Psych 101 of “I’m more important to you than you are to me” game. I was finally so sick of his juvenile attitude and told him we could forget it. I told him I felt the visit was a waste of both our time. He responded with “more so mine.” I called the business a few hours later and let them know of my experience. They apologized. I told them I was through with the company, but I wanted to let the owner know what kind of people they have representing the company. Obviously, I’m not commenting on the quality of work for this company as it never got that far for me. Hopefully, this is just one person that has ethic and attitude issues and is not a representation of the company.

*****edit to add, the structure failed the building inspection when we finally got it and we had to Ake extra repairs. They may make it look pretty but if you aren’t builder savvy you will be in for a ride ******* Buyer Beware! This company seems to think building permits are optional. Now we have almost $2000 worth of extra work that needs to be done AFTER they left because they left us with huge city code violations. We hired this company because we thought they were top notch and would take care of these steps for us. Once the structure was up and they had their money no one seems to be able to return our calls. To top it off, there is still no guarantee that we can keep the structure because of the property codes for the city. After we spent the day in the zoning office in San Antonio we found out they aren’t licensed in the city, only the state. This has been a horrible experience! Spend your money somewhere else don’t be left hanging in a mess like we are.
