We were very happy with our overall experience with Block and our contractor for our kitchen + laundry room renovation. It was important to us that we worked with a trustworthy contractor and knowing that Block already vetted them, made the process a lot less stressful. The design process was streamlined, our only critique is that it felt a little rushed and it would have been helpful to have more time with the designer (hence the 4 stars).

I decided to renovate with Block and could not be happier with the result. I asked for a full gut renovation including a tub to shower conversion in my NY apartment and they completed the project in under 4 weeks! I’m extremely happy and would recommend to anyone looking to remodel.

We renovated our Co-OP building lobby and common areas using block. This was my second time hiring block and I had a fabulous experience. Block tailored the process to the buildings needs, which included renderings, assistance with material selection and quantity calculations, as well as payment installments and clear breakdowns of costs along the way. I absolutely love our contractor and his team- they were highly professional and finished the project on budget and on time- two nearly impossible feats in construction! Thank you block!

Tl; dr – Don’t bother with Block. I’ll keep this brief: Block saved me from decision fatigue at the beginning of the project through the option to use one of their template designs and by matching me with a contractor. But that is the only upside. At the end of the day, they became a third party that stood in between my contractor and me with regard to payments, and there was barely any project accountability. The only time they stepped in was when I happened to rate my satisfaction with my project as a 1 on their portal, and even then, it was the barest minimum. Because of this, my 40-square-foot gut bathroom renovation that should have taken max 8 weeks took 5.5 months.

This was my first time using Block (I had previously never knew about the company). I had a half bath remodeled into a full bath in Boston, MA. I couldn’t be more happier with my experience. Blocked answered all my questions throughout the project timely and matched me with an outstanding contractor. Would recommend.

Block Renovations has proven to be a disastrous choice. Despite promises of price assurance on their website, we discovered our contractor was charging over 40% more than standard prices. “The milestone payments” demanded an exorbitant 80% upfront. Escalation support was laughable, offering no resolution when we were scammed by our contractor for work he never performed. Block’s ineffective customer service simply redirected us to communicate with our unreliable contractor, showcasing their useless customer service. The workmanship warranty is far from reliable, as we had electrical and plumbing work done by an unlicensed person. Block’s policy allowing contractors to use non-capable workers without proper verification from the contractor is a serious flaw. This has been our worst decision in the entire renovation process. I strongly advise others to steer clear of Block renovations.

This was my first time doing any major renovations to my home, so having Block there to guide me through the process made things a lot less scary for me. I found that the design process was super helpful, and my designer helped bring my ideas to life while keeping my budget and reality in mind. However, the coordination between Block and my contractors let a few significant details fall through the cracks, which wound up costing me a lot of time, money and heartache. Overall, I would recommend Block for a first time remodeler and urge them to make sure there’s strong communication between design and contractor to get the best value possible.

I had an amazing experience working with Block–at every step of the process, they were very quick, thorough, and attentive to our needs. Even though we were doing a smaller kitchen job, they still gave us plenty of options for how we wanted to build out the space. We were also matched to an incredible contractor, so I can also vouch for the Block’s process of vetting contractors. While there was an unfortunate delay during construction, the Block team moved very quickly to resolve it as fast as possible. Overall, my experience was very good and we have no reservations in recommending Block to others. Special shout out to Jon, Octavio, and Jenny for their extra hard work in making this happen!

I just finished an initial virtual consultation with Block renovation. Very professional, but the price quoted was more than double the cost of local contractors. $20,000-25,000 for a guest bathroom, before even discussing materials or finishes. All upgrades requested were strictly cosmetic and I have no idea how it could even escalate to that cost. I will find my own contractor and won’t move forward with Block, for less than half the cost. Edit re:Block’s response; No details of the pricing were shared other than it’s based on “local labor rates for my area”. The consultant did not explain pricing when asked, and instead ended the call.
