I want to say thank you to Black Diamond Experts for being so responsive in sending a technician so quickly when our AC unit stopped working. Dealing with 107 degree St. George heat in July is no joke. Our technician, Brad, was wonderful, very friendly, and professional. He explained the problem and our options clearly, then fixed our unit very quickly. We’ve had Black Diamond technicians do work for us in the past for HVAC, electric and plumbing. They are all great and we will definitely use their services again in the future.

I agree with many of the reviews that Black Diamond acts very professionally, and is prompt and knowledgeable. The reason for my 3-star review is simply due to their inexplicably high pricing. I’ll give you three examples: I called them to do a check on my AC since the condenser seemed to no longer be working. They came out and diagnosed problem as the fan motor being shot and needing to be replaced. They also said that the condenser grating was dirty and that they had gone ahead and hosed/brushed it off for me. Great, right? That’s what I thought until they presented me the bill for $190 for hosing and brushing off the condenser for 20 minutes! They didn’t ask me beforehand if I wanted them to do it, and if they would have told me it would cost $200 to spray a hose at it for 20 minutes, I would have chosen to do it myself. (The $190 didn’t include the diagnostic fee, which was a reasonable $39.) After cleaning the unit, they gave me an estimate for the replacement fan motor. The quoted replacement costs to replace just the fan motor (not the fan blades or any other parts on the unit) was quoted as $1,392.00. I didn’t know any better, so I was like “ok, if that’s what it costs.” A day later they showed up with the motor, but since they didn’t have an OEM motor in stock they used a universal motor instead, and lowered the price to $1068. I was happy for the discounted rate, until I looked up the exact motor that they had put in… the EXACT motor they put in is currently priced at $140 at Ace Hardware, and it’s in-stock. The total time it took to replace the motor was about 30 minutes, for one person, which means that they billed me $900 for 20-45 minutes of labor! I can understand them billing me $150 or $200 for an hour for their service, but $900? And you KNOW that they got the motor at a lower rate than what I could get it for at Ace, so they were likely billing me closer to $1k for that half hour. Ridiculous. And the third example: Just TWO DAYS LATER the AC failed again, and I called them out again to take a look. They said that the condenser itself had failed, and that they would send a salesperson over later in the evening to go over my options. My options turned out to be $10.6k for a new outside AC unit (with a new fan motor listed as a part of the costs!), or $18k for a new AC and Furnace that had the same energy efficiency as my 22-year old system had, or $25k for a slightly more efficient system. I got three other quotes from other providers, and they were all shocked at how much they charged me for the fan motor replacement, and each of the other quotes came in at several thousand dollars less for similar or better systems than what Black Diamond quoted me, with longer warranties. I chose one of the other’s that was also highly rated, and they had a crew put the entire new system in place the very next day. So, long story short, Black Diamond really does seem to know their stuff, and they seem to be cheerful and dependable, and they show up when they say they will, but they are significantly more expensive than other comparable service providers in the area. If they would have charged rates that didn’t feel opportunistic (they knew we need our AC fixed since it was 110 outside), this review would have been different.

While many others could not help us Black Diamond were able to get here quickly. Santos Torres was our technician he was fast through and understood the problem we were having. He was everything you want in a technician and then some! The person answering the phone was polite and took care of us quickly, keeping me updated of the technician’s location and time he would arrive. I highly recommend them

If I could give them a 10 I would! Our AC died on us in this 116-117 degree heat. They responded quickly to help us. Jake was friendly helpful and quick to get us an appointment. The technician Brad was the best! He kept us updated on when he would arrive and arrived in the time frame he gave us. He explained everything and suggested things that would improve our HVAC experience without pushing or doing a hard sell. He was friendly, well mannered and we felt comfortable with him in our home. I would definitely recommend them.
