These people bought out a great company, East Hampton Fuel, which offered senior discounts. This policy was discontinued by General Utilities. When I called the company about paying my bill, I was given the senior discount over the phone after asking for it and paid in full. THEN the company sends me a bill for a balance to recoup the “discount” they had given me. When I said I thought they should honor what they had offered, they got nasty. I will never buy from them again.

General Utilities of Hampton Bays is a terrible company to do business with. When I refused to pay $550.00 for a air conditioner fan motor, because I could buy one on line for $167.50 delivered the next day the service man changed all the wiring on the capacitor and relay so that it would not work when I did change the motor. Fortunately I can read a wiring diagram (schematic) and was able to fix it myself. I find them dishonest and repulsive, just trying to take advantage of a senior citizen! Their are other companies to do business with here on the East End of Long Island and we already made changes! Another example of why it is not a good idea to do business with General Utilities of Hampton Bays. I don’t mind paying for a repair, if it is a fair charge for the repair. I have a service contract. The previous service call to my home 8/11/16 found that the capacitor had melted. The service man replaced the capacitor and added a hard start capacitor. He said he just installed one the previous day General charged about $30.00. When he called the office, he told me they wanted to charge $90.00 for the same item, but he already mentioned the price so they said OK, charge $35.00. The capacitor that had melted was $75.00. So the total with tax was $119.49. I paid it. The same capacitor I paid $75.00 is $8.36. on Amazon. The hard start capacitor is $12.79. Total $21.15 for the parts I paid $119.49. I got ripped off and it’s not even debatable!
